So we have a 12 1/2% unemployment rate in Orange County, CA.
Part of my extended family has been unemployed for 1 1/2 years – and all of my extra money goes to support that person.
I had 5 furlough days last year so the company could save money.
I was forced to use one week of vacation already this year during a time when the kids where in school.
(And I work for a company rated as one of best companies in Orange County to work for – voted by the employees)
Everyone in Orange County is feeling it – deeply.
I feel like I personally am in good shape all things considered.
So the school district has a serious shortage of cash and wants all teachers to take a 10% cut in pay.
The union says, promise to reinstate our pay when more money comes in. The school district refuses to make that promise.
If I had a cut in pay from my employer, I could choose to stay or leave. I wouldn’t get a promise of reinstating my pay one or two years down the road. Why do the teachers think they should have this benefit that I wouldn’t have?
My children’s education is being compromised because of a greedy union. Shame on them.
Why don’t they instead carry picket signs stating:
Raise the Sales Tax
Raise the Auto Registration Fee
Raise the State Income Tax Rate
Repeal Prop 13
