Lake Sabrina, May 15, 2010
This time we decided not to go camping and stay in a hotel for the one night. The main reason is that I did not want to take the time with the campsite and wanted to just go fishing. After all, we only had one night and the next day to play. So on the way to Bishop, about 11:30, I pulled over to this cheap motel in Olancha – the Rustic Motel. It served the purpose. Nothing fancy. It rents for $60 per night or $30 per night if you stay the entire week. It is almost like a remote cabin with a big firepit outside of the building. Very basic motel. Got a bed, a shower, and small tv which we had trouble changing chanels of. But I was satisfied.

When we got to Bishop, we headed into the mountains and went straight to Lake Sabrina. The lake was drained again in late August. They always let it fill up later so I expect one month from now, it will be full. It was still covered in slush so if you wanted to fish in Lake Sabrina proper, you needed to hike in an hour or so. We has reports of people pulling in 30 fish a day from that spot. We left for a time and went to intake 2.

Intake 2 was almost like Combat Fishing. I had never seen it so crowded and we go there once or twice every year. No one was pulling anything in as well; however, that was likely just a timing issue as I had been given reports of a lot of catches from there as well.

So we went back to Lake Sabrina and did the hike to the inlet. It was a good fun hike except the snow did get the kids shoes and socks all wet making it a rough hike back for them.

We did not catch any fish this day, but is was all still worth it. Whenever I feel tons of stress and need a release, a trip to the Sierra’s outside of Bishop does the trick every time.
