Desiree did her first sacrament meeting talk today. She was nervous about it of course. She did very well at it and many people acknowledged that as well. Here was her talk.

Hi, For those who do not know me, I am Desiree Nettles. And I have been in the young womens program for about 2 months now.

The first assignment I was given was to do three things. 1. Read the scriptures everyday. 2. Say your own personal prayers. and 3. Smile.

I have been doing pretty good with these tasks.

The young women program has some standards. These standards are listed in the Strength of Youth pamphlet. These are the standards we have to live by. I am now going to briefly go over these standards.

Standard 1: Agency and Accountability
When you make a choice, you will receive the consequences of that choice – good or bad.

Standard 2: Gratitude
Show appreciation to those who help you, including the Lord.

Standard 3: Family
Do your part to build a happy home. Be cheerful, helpful, and considerate of others.
Seek to be a peacemaker rather than to tease, fight, and quarrel.

Standard 4: Friends
Choose your friends carefully. They will greatly influence how you think and act, and even help determine the person you will become.

Standard 5: Dress and Appearance
Dress modestly. The way you dress is a reflection of what you are on the inside.

Standard 6: Entertainment and the Media
Offensive material is often found in many places. Stay away from stuff that leads you away from the spirit.

Standard 7: Music and Dancing
Choose carefully the music you listen to. Don’t listen to music that drives away the Spirit.

Standard 8: Language
How you speak says much about who you are. Use language that uplifts, encourages, and compliments others. Do not insult others or put them down, even in joking.

Standard 9: Dating
Do not date until you are at least 16 years old.
When you begin dating, go in groups or on double dates and avoid going on frequent dates with the same person.

Standard 10: Repentance
If you make a mistake, repent. Don’t break God’s commandments, expecting to repent before you go to the temple or serve a mission. It will just make it difficult to find your way back.

Standard 11: Honesty
When you lie, steal, or cheat, you damage your spirit and become less able to do good things.

Standard 12: Sabbath Day
Do uplifting activities that are appropriate for the Sabbath.

Standard 13: Tithing
A tithe is one-tenth of your income. Paying tithing shows your gratitude for all that God has given you.

Standard 14: Physical Health
Eat nutritious food, exercise regularly, and get enough sleep. When you do all these things, you remain free from harmful addictions and have control over your life.

Standard 15: Service to Others
There are many ways to serve others. You can serve in your Church assignments and in your home, school, and community. Often the most important service is expressed through simple, everyday acts of kindness.

Standard 16: Go Forward with Faith
• To help you become all that the Lord wants you to become,
• Get on your knees each day and express to Him the desires of your heart.
• Read the scriptures daily.
• Keep the covenants you made when you were baptized
• Be true to the Lord and to His Church.
• Be humble and willing to listen to the whisperings of the Spirit.

When you do these things, the Lord will make much more out of your life than you can by yourself.

I like these standards because it they are good principles to live by.

I say this in the name of Jesus Christ Amen
