Watching Steve Hartman on the news announcing the hiring of Vinney Del Negro as the new coach, I was reminided of the days when Steve Hartman was a real fan of the young and exciting upcoming team – the Clippers. Back around 2005, there were real hopes that Don Sterling had now decided to be real sports owner and was making a real run to becoming a solid contender. I don’t blame Sterling for the demise of the last three years. I blame Dunleavy. After the firing of Dunleavy, things could have been set right. But instead, they shall continue to be the traditional woeful Clippers. Even Chris Kaman will not stick around after his contract is up.
Why Vinny Del Negro? Why not Byron Scott? Byron Scott had even shown an interest in the job. He had taken two loser teams and sent them to the playoffs and in the case of the Nets, even taken them to the finals twice. What, Baron Davis has a problem with Byron Scott? I think thats Baron’s problem. This was a real opportunity….lost. Now Byron Scott is in Cleveland. Cleveland now gets a real upgrade with a stellar coach and they will very likely re-sign LeBron and do a sign and trade for Chris Bosh. With Antwan Jamison also on the team, I predict the finals. I will not predict beating the Lakers; but I predict the finals. Maybe I should become a Cavs fan since they at least make good decisions. I mean, who would choose Cleveland to live in?
It is time for Don Sterling to hang up his hat in basketball. Sell the team to someone who is serious about basketball and has more basketball sense. Let that new owner move the team to Orange County and let us embrace them. Please Donald, step aside. You really don’t need to be running a basketball team.
